Location and grape growing condition

New Zealand is a green and pleasant land, located in the Southern Pacific islands, 1600 km away from the nearest land mass Australia. Grapevines were first planted here in 1819 but it took a long 150 years for New Zealanders to discover that their country’s cool, maritime climate was suitable for high quality wine production.

New Zealand grows the world’s most Southernly grapes. A climatic distinction can be made between the warmer North Island regions and those in the cooler South Island, with five to six degree temperature difference respectively.

Sauvignon Blanc has built an international reputation in New Zealand and is the most planted Grape Variety.

Marlborough is the biggest of New Zealand’s wine region, located at the north tip of the South Island, Sauvignon Blanc is Marlborough’s best known and most planted variety. The pungent, aromatic wines that blend tropical fruit flavours with gooseberry and capsicum herbaceusness is the national style of New Zealand.

Hawk’s Bay is situated on the east coast of the North Island. Hawk’s Bay records the highest amount of sunshine hours, thus making it another popular wine growing region in New Zealand.
