Wine has been made in South Africa for more than 350 years, as long as some European wine regions. The country is actually quite European in character and generally enjoys a climate similar to that of the Mediterranean. A long, mostly sunny, summer with great intensity of light, and a mild but damp winter lasting from May to September, promises favorable conditions for wine growing.
Stellenbosch is a relatively small area, thanks to its variety of altitude, aspect and soil; it has built its reputation for top Bordeaux style red and in cooler areas for Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
Constantia this is the cradle of South African wine, famous for its sweet fortified Muscat.
