Grape – Carménère

What is it?

Carménère is a black grape variety very popular in Chile. It was introduced from Bordeaux to Chile together with Cab and Merlot, it produces wines deep in color with a medium to full body. Carménère displays a medium to high acidity with a high alcohol content and high levels of tannins, exhibiting flavours of dark fruits.

Until very recently in Chile the wine growers thought it was Merlot and sold as Merlot. Carménère is originated from Bordeaux but nearly extincted in Bordeaux
